| Old
school kung fu films are the basic of Chinese cinema.
From the old Wong Fei Hung films to the more recent Shaolin
Temple, they all are very similar. It is the type people
always stereotype as Hong Kong films, badly dubbed, samey
plots and of course tons of over the top, sound effect
filled Kung Fu. Sounds like new wave does it not? Well
it isn't. It seems very unrealistic, in the sense they
have a habit to do moves and leave them self's open and
it all looks like a routine instead of a fight. Although
it sounds like I'm bagging the genre, I'm really not,
I love it. There are some of the greatest acrobatic displays
from any Hong Kong actor. Take Shaolin Temple for instance,
it's probably Jet Li's most acrobatic film. Even Jackie
Chan started out in Old School with Drunken Master and
Snake in the Eagle's shadow. It's a great genre, and the
foundation of all great Hong Kong films today. Yuen Wo
Ping, John Woo, Jackie Chan, Samo Hung, Yuen Biao, all
these great modern day heroes started off in Old School.
